FAQs
Why is regular dam and pond maintenance important?
Dams and ponds are always at risk of issues caused by excess aquatic vegetation and leaks from damaged lining. Too much aquatic weed growth, such as from algae blooms, can leave water severely deoxygenated, putting fish and other forms of aquatic life at risk. And if there is a tear in the pond's external lining, water can quickly become contaminated and murky.
How do I keep the base of my pond or dam clear?
You can use a tool such as the Beachroller to maintain aquatic weed control throughout the year. All you need to do is roll it across the floor of your dam. It will rip up weeds and plants from the root to help prevent them from regrowing, and it will also help to disrupt the layers that sludge that form, which can then be removed manually.
Will these maintenance tools permanently remove my weeds?
Algae and other forms of aquatic weeds are stubborn; they will find ways of returning even with regular maintenance. It's why we also always recommend a combination of aeration and probiotics as part of your routine. This approach will help reduce the chances of weeds and algae forming in the first place.
How does algae form in the first place?
Algae forms in water systems when there is an abundance of anaerobic bacteria available for the algae to feed from. These excess levels of nutrients are generally caused by things such as agricultural runoff, animal waste, and decomposing organic matter. They also develop more aggressively in warm, stagnant water with high levels of sunlight.
