Matala Air Filter for Rocking Piston Compressor

Replacement air filter pad for Matala ¼hp, ½hp and ¾hp rocking piston compressors.

What is a Matala Air Filter?

A Matala air filter is a key component that forms a small part of the wider Matala air compressor system. It can be installed in front of the compressor or behind it (or both). It is made from clog-resistant material that traps dust and fine debris particles before they can enter into the hose that funnels down to the air stations.

Why a Matala Air Filter Is Important

Air compressor air filters play a vital role in maintaining the short- and long-term health of an aeration system. Without the air filter, dust and debris would easily get into the main air flow - this will eventually lead to blockages of the air station and a rapid decrease in the wider efficiency of water aeration and turnover.

The Benefits of a Matala Air Filter

Heat Reduction

A clean Matala filter allows the compressor to breathe freely. A poor filter will lead the motor to work harder, causing unnecessary heat and friction and eventual breakdowns.

A Quieter System

Matala air filters have the added benefit of acting as a silencer for the compressor, which could be particularly important for ponds in urban areas.

Easy Maintenance

Matala air filters are very easy to clean. So when it comes to maintaining your system, you’ll be able to reuse the same filter several times before needing an air filter replacement.

Standardised Sizing

Matala keeps their filter designs consistent across all of their compressor units. This means that you can swap and replace them across multiple systems if you have them in place.

How To Uninstall and Reinstall Your Matala Air Filter

Matala air filters are designed for the entire range of Matala air compressors including the 1/4hp, 1/2hp and the 3/4hp rocking piston compressors. They are very easy to uninstall and reinstall.

  1. First, unscrew the canister by gripping the entire black plastic filter assembly.

  2. Open the housing unit of your Matala air compressor and remove the old filter. You can then choose to clean or replace it depending on the severity of the degradation.

  3. Reinsert the new filter back into the canister base.

  4. Close the housing unit by snapping the canister lid back on.

FAQs

Can I wash my existing Matala air filters?

Matala air filters use a paper-based material for the actual filtration process which cannot be washed. Instead, you should use a shop vac to blow out dust and debris if it is minimal. If it is greasy or heavily clogged, you’re best off replacing the filter entirely.

How often should I check the filter?

We recommend checking your air compressor filters every six months, or if you start to notice dips in your aeration outputs. If you live in a dry, dusty area where the filter is likely to be worked harder, you should increase this maintenance check to once every three months.

What happens if I forget to change my air filter?

If you accidentally allow your air filter to remain unchanged for several months, you run the risk of your motor starting to overheat. This is because the compressor has to work harder to draw air into the system. This will also have the knock-on effect of increasing your overall energy costs.
