FAQs

How do bad odours develop in water systems?

Bad odours occur when anaerobic, 'bad' bacteria is allowed to flourish and grow when breaking down organic compounds. These are bacteria that can thrive in oxygen-deprived environments and are what often produce that rotten egg smell from sources such as hydrogen sulphide. This type of bacteria also develops rapidly in warm, stagnant waters.

How does Biostim remove bad odours?

Biostim suppresses the growth of anaerobic bacteria which are the source of bad smells. It does this by encouraging the growth of aerobic, 'good' bacteria cultures in water systems. This good bacteria will feed off organic matter instead of the bad stuff, leaving your water quality high with no lingering smells. The removal of these potential toxins should also make your system suitable as drinking water for pets and animals.

Are nitrifiers dangerous for fish and plant life?

No - nitrifiers have no negative health effects on fish and plant life. Rather, they help remove nitrite from a water body which is known to be very toxic to fish by converting it to nitrate. While nitrate can be harmful in high concentrations, it's generally safe and can be removed with a denitrifier for additional assurance.

Does it make a difference if I use the Biostim pellets or the powder?

Biostim works in much the same way regardless of what form it takes. Biostim powder can be dosed at higher rates and there are perhaps less potential hazards associated with using the powder, but pellets and tablets still achieve excellent results.
