FAQs
What is a non-aerating fountain?
A non-aerating fountain is a system that has the primary goal of visual appeal within a water body rather than water oxygenation or circulating deep water. It takes water directly from the surface and delivers it back to the body using a combination of sprays and patterns. You will still get some residual oxygen transfer, though it isn’t substantial enough to match an aerating fountain.
How do aerating and non-aerating fountains differ?
The main difference between the two types is the spray velocity. Aerating fountains will disperse a much higher volume of water across a larger area with the intention of disrupting the surface enough to cause oxygen transfer. They also draw water in from lower depths, encouraging more substantial water circulation.
Can I use both aeration and non-aeration systems together?
Yes - this is a common approach to get the best of both worlds; aesthetics and steady oxygenation. You may wish to use your non-aerating fountains for the visual appeal, and a subsurface aeration system for the legwork of keeping your water system healthy.
