FAQs
How do diffuser discs improve overall pond and dam health?
Diffuser discs are an essential part of aeration systems that play several key roles in keeping ponds and dams healthy. They increase dissolved oxygen levels throughout water columns, which helps your fish to live comfortably and also encourages the growth of aerobic (good) bacteria. This also helps to reduce muck and organic sludge that forms at the bottom of a water body.
How deep should I place my air station discs?
Your air station discs should be placed at the bottom of your pond or lake. Our models are self-weighted, meaning they’ll sink to the bottom on their own, making installation a breeze. Circular discs are usually effective at depths of around 1.5m-2m. If your pond or dam is deeper than this, you might wish to look at a tube diffuser instead.
How many air station discs should I install?
This depends on your own setup. If you have a small pond, you should be able to manage with a single disc diffuser for aeration. There is no hard and fast rule as to what constitutes a small pond, but we consider anything less than 1000 litres of volume to be small. If you have a pond that covers a large surface area, you should consider setting up multiple stations.
What maintenance do air station discs require?
You should inspect your diffuser membranes a couple of times a year to confirm there is no clogging or damage. You’ll also need to check for leaks in the tubing. Most air station discs should be expected to last around 5-10 years.
