Liner Underlay 2m Wide (150gsm) Cut to Length

What is a Liner Underlay?

A pond liner underlay is a key component of any water system installation. It is the protective layer that rests between the earth or substrate and the rubber pond liner that keeps the water clean and contained. Several materials can be used as an underlay as its primary job is to offer additional protection to the liner from shifting ground, roots, and debris within the earth that can cause punctures.

Why a Liner Underlay is Important

Some pond builders fall into the trap of believing that their liner is enough to keep their pond or dam protected. This isn’t often the case. Under the huge weight of water, liners can quickly become susceptible to punctures and overstretching. Without an underlay in place, there is nothing to stop sediment from seeping into your water system, which will quickly cloud your water and cause clogging.

Benefits of a Liner Underlay

Very Durable

Our underlay is made from UV-stabilised, continuous-filament virgin polyester. Both our pond liners and underlays are designed to resist punctures and tearing.

Cut to Length

We ensure our customers receive the exact amount of underlay they require by cutting to their requested length, meaning they’re only paying for what they need.

High Versatility

Our pond underlays are suitable for all types of water systems including ponds, irrigation dams, swimming lakes, and waste water treatment plants.

Meets Regulatory Standards

Our textile underlays are manufactured in an ISO-accredited facility using the latest German DILO blown hot-air technology, resulting in a high-strength, puncture- and tear-resistant fabric.

How To Install Your Liner Underlay

  1. Make sure that your excavation site is completely clear of all debris, roots, and other potential puncture hazards. You may wish to place an additional layer of sand down as support.

  2. Starting from the centre, roll your sheets of underlay up and over the edges of your pond, allowing for slack to counter the additional weight of the water that will pull them down.

  3. Overlay the joins to prevent gaps from opening up in the event of ground shifts.

  4. If you have particularly stubborn areas of roots and rocks that you aren’t able to remove, place additional sheets over these areas for additional protection.

Tip: Always keep in mind that aesthetics do not matter when it comes to the overlay. While it is important that all joins are overlapping and everything is covered, do not feel the need to spend excess time making everything look perfect.

FAQs

Will I need more than one layer of underlay?

Not necessarily. Our underlay is made out of a highly durable, geotextile material, so one layer should be enough protection for your liner.

What is GSM and is 150GSM enough?

GSM stands for Grams per Square Metre and indicates the level of toughness that a material possesses. With a rating of 150GSM, this underlay has enough durability to handle most pond and dam environments. However, if your site is very heavy on rough sediment and potential puncture risks, you could opt for our 300GSM liner underlay.

Do you provide free shipping?

Yes - we provide free shipping to around 95% of Australian locations. There are some remote rural and island postcodes where we may need to apply additional shipping costs prior to dispatch. In these instances, we will notify you prior to dispatching.

Do I need to attach my joins together?

You won’t usually need to attach the joins together - in fact, it’s generally better to avoid this to account for the shifting of ground beneath. As long as there is ample overlap of your sheets, the weight of the water and the liner should pin them in place.

*We provide free shipping to 95% of Australia, but there are some locations (e.g. Island and remote rural post codes) which unfortunately we cannot provide this option. Although rare, in this situation we will need to manually add the additional shipping costs prior to dispatch. If this is the case, we will contact you prior to sending the order and billing you an additional amount.
