Matala Maintenance Kit for ¼hp Compressor (MPC-60)
What’s included in the MPC-60 Matala Maintenance Kit
This kit contains all of the necessary parts to keep your compressor in top working condition. It includes a piston cup, a replacement cylinder, the cylinder O-ring, an upper/down valve flapper, and the valve O-ring. There is also the option to purchase maintenance kits for the MPC-120 and the MPC-200 compressors.
What Each Component Does
Cylinder
The hard-coated surface in which the piston cup operates.
Piston Cup
The Teflon-coated seal that sits on top of the piston during operation.
Cylinder O-Ring
This is the larger rubber ring that sits at the base or top of the cylinder. It prevents air from leaking out of the junction where the cylinder meets the pump housing.
Upper/Down Valve Flapper
The mechanism needed to allow fresh air to enter the cylinder. It then opens to allow the piston to push the compressed air out into the water body.
Valve O-Ring
Ensures that the intake and exhaust portions of the valve remain separate.
Benefits of the Matala MPC-60 Compressor
Deep Water Performance
As with the other Matala compressors, it has the capability of performing in depths of over 9m xwithout running the risk of buckling under the back pressure of the water column.
High Durability Levels
The MPC-60 is designed for continuous operation in all types of conditions.
Smart Design Features
As it is an oil-less design, there is no risk of oil or grease escaping into your water system and causing harm. It also offers thermal protection within the motor so internal components aren’t exposed to extremely high temperatures.
A Trusted Brand
Matala has been one of the leading names in aquatic maintenance products and water solutions for over 25 years.
How To Maintain Your Matala MPC-60 Compressor
Air compressor maintenance is a vital part of any successful aeration system running consistently and successfully for a long time. Because it generates a high level of heat and operates at higher pressures, keeping it clean and cool is vital if you want it to last.
Some of the key maintenance tasks include:
-
Checking the filter every month. If there’s just dust, you can clear this away and continue to use it. If the filter looks clogged, consider switching it out for a new one.
-
Replacing the piston cup if it is showing signs of thinning out. If you need to replace the piston cup, you should always install a new cylinder at the same time.
-
Wiping away carbon and dust from the valve seats.
-
Checking the pressure relief valve, ensuring that it isn’t making a hissing sound.

FAQs
What is the main difference between the MPC-60 and the MPC-120?
The main difference between the two compressors is that the MPC-60 is a single piston unit, whereas the MPC-120 uses a twin-piston setup. As a result, the MPC-120 is more suited to larger, deeper bodies of water.
Can I use the same maintenance kit pieces on other Matala compressors?
Yes. The Matala maintenance kit components can be used across the MPC-120 and MPC-200 units. However, you’ll need to keep in mind that this kit only provides a single set of each item, whereas the other units require multiple. You can also purchase maintenance kits specified for those units which will have the correct component numbers.
Do you provide free shipping?
Yes - we provide free shipping to around 95% of Australian locations. There are some remote rural and island postcodes where we may need to apply additional shipping costs prior to dispatch. In these instances, we will notify you prior to dispatching.
How often should I do a complete rebuild of my compressor unit?
Provided you’ve not needed to replace any parts for one-off purposes or repairs, we recommend that you apply a new rebuild to your compressor every two years using the components from our maintenance kits.
