Waterfall Bundles
Looking to add a waterfall or stream to your water body? We’ve got exactly what you need. Our waterfall bundles come in different sizes, meaning that whatever the height of your waterfall, we have you covered.
What Products Are in the Waterfall Bundles?
Our waterfall bundles are made up of two Matala products: the Matala Geyser Hi Flow Water Pump and the Matala Pump Defender.
- Matala Geyser Hi Flow Water Pump: This submersible device is used to pump up to 68,000 litres of water per hour. It is high quality, very powerful, and designed to ensure you have an impressive waterfall or stream off your dam. Unlike other pumps of its capacity, this pump can actually run on mains power alone and is perfect for fountains, waterfalls, streams, irrigation systems, and much more.
- Matala Pump Defender: Anyone with a Matala pump or other kind of water pump knows that debris can have a detrimental effect on your water pump. If things get caught up and blocked, your pump can cease to work. The Matala Pump Defender is crafted from premium Matala Filter Media and will not only improve the longevity of your Matala pump but will also reduce its maintenance needs. Cleaning is also simple as the filter can be removed and debris shaken off.
Why Should I Install a Waterfall in My Dam?
There are many benefits to installing a waterfall or stream in your dam using our bundle. These include the following.
- Aesthetic appeal: Waterfalls look great and can enhance the aesthetic appeal of your garden and wider property. This is great, particularly for those looking to sell.
- Recreation: Waterfalls can be fun to play in and make people want to use your dam for leisure.
- Wildlife: Did you know that a waterfall can help your dam to support even more wildlife? They can act as a natural shelter, a breeding ground, and even a place to find food for many aquatic creatures.
- Water quality: Waterfalls create movement and aeration in your dam. These combine to enhance oxygen levels in your dam, which ensures the growth and balance of aerobic bacteria in your dam. A balanced dam can ensure you don’t have problems like algal blooms and sludge.
- Erosion control: When properly designed, a waterfall can also ensure that there is reduced soil erosion and sedimentation in your dam.
Notes on Aeration: Why a Waterfall Can Help Your Dam to Thrive
Aeration is incredibly beneficial for your dam water, and installing a waterfall in your dam can enhance it. Below are reasons why aeration can be beneficial for your water quality.
- Reduce algal growth: Aeration promotes aerobic conditions in the dam. This stimulates the growth of aerobic bacteria, which compete with algae for nutrients, such as nitrogen. If the numbers of aerobic bacteria are limited in your dam, more algae will feed on these nutrients and may grow out of control.
- Reduced odours: Water that doesn’t move can give off unpleasant odours due to low oxygen levels. This is because decomposing matter in the water is subject to anaerobic conditions. By promoting more oxygenation and improving aerobic incisions, the aerobic decomposition process can occur, which doesn’t give off foul odours.
- Prevents stratification: In larger dams, stratification may occur. This is when water is separated into layers based on temperature and oxygen content. This can lead to hypoxic conditions in the dam, where the bottom layer tends to be oxygen-depleted, impacting aquatic life in a negative way. Aeration ensures that oxygen mixes throughout the column.
- Prevents ice formation: In places where temperatures get below freezing, aeration can ensure that the water does not freeze, allowing access to it all year round. This is useful for those using their dam for livestock.
